When the Wall Becomes Part of the Experience: Scenic Wallcoverings in Workplace Interiors
Scenic Wallcoverings in Workplace Interiors
A workplace can be professional without being predictable. Scenic wallcoverings in workplace interiors can do more than add pattern.
Scenic wallcoverings are often thought of as decorative elements, but in the right environment they can do much more. They can influence how a room feels, create visual depth, soften a more traditional office setting, and help establish a memorable experience for both clients and employees.
For this concept, I explored how two designs from the Thibaut Mural Resource collection — Austria and Taormina — could be interpreted in sophisticated workplace interiors.
The goal was not simply to add pattern to a wall. It was to consider how the wall itself could become part of the experience.
Executive Offices: Creating Calm and Perspective
An executive office needs to support focus, private conversations and decision-making while still reflecting the character of the business.

The Austria mural, with its towering trees, winding paths and expansive sky, brings a sense of calm and perspective to the room. Rather than competing with the furnishings, the landscape becomes a quiet backdrop that adds depth and sophistication.
In a private office, this type of scenic wallcovering can make the environment feel more considered without becoming overly decorative.
Meeting Rooms: Depth Without Distraction
Meeting rooms can easily feel functional or institutional, particularly when the design relies heavily on tables, screens and task-oriented furniture.

A layered scenic wallcovering can change that experience.
Used thoughtfully, a landscape introduces interest while still allowing the room to remain focused and professional. The result can feel more composed, less corporate in the traditional sense, and more welcoming for client conversations.
Client Lounges: A Subtle Hospitality Influence
Workplaces are increasingly borrowing cues from hospitality environments, particularly in spaces where clients spend time.
That does not mean an office needs to feel like a hotel or residential living room. Instead, small design decisions can make a client-facing space feel more comfortable and intentional.

Scenic wallcoverings can help introduce that softer quality.
A landscape with subtle movement, natural forms and layered color can bring a more relaxed feeling to one-on-one meetings, consultation spaces and client lounges while still maintaining the level of refinement expected in a professional environment.
Private Offices: Distinctive Without Being Distracting
The Taormina mural introduces a different character.

Its painterly greens, cypress and palms create a Mediterranean influence that feels fresh and distinctive. In a private office, it can provide personality without overwhelming the room.
This is particularly effective when the surrounding furniture and finishes remain tailored and restrained.
The wallcovering becomes the visual focal point while the rest of the space supports it.
Reception Areas: Creating a Sense of Arrival
The reception area often creates the first impression of a workplace.

Before a client enters a conference room or meets with an advisor, they are already forming an impression of the company through the environment around them.
A scenic wallcovering can help create an immediate sense of arrival.
The right mural can communicate warmth, care and attention to detail without relying on excessive signage or decorative elements.
In a sophisticated workplace, that first impression should feel intentional.
Workplace Design Is About More Than Furniture
Furniture is an important part of any office, but the overall experience comes from how all of the elements work together.
Space planning, lighting, acoustics, flooring, wall finishes, artwork, greenery and furnishings all contribute to how a workplace feels and functions.
Wallcoverings are one of those elements that can easily be overlooked, yet they can dramatically influence the character of a room.

The most successful workplace interiors are not created by adding more.
They are created by choosing the right elements and understanding how each one contributes to the experience.

A Workplace Can Be Professional Without Being Predictable
A thoughtful workplace should support the people who use it, represent the business behind it and create an environment clients remember.
Sometimes that begins with the floor plan.
Sometimes it begins with the furniture.
And sometimes, the wall becomes part of the experience.
